Duties, Responsibilities, and Skills:
Assigns, instructs and directs tree trimmers and park groundsmen
Directs tree spray programs
Oversees the planting, pruning, topping, feeling, cabling, and climbing of trees
Plans, plants and maintains all flower beds
Operates power saws and spraying equipment
Inspects trees, develops a tree inventory and determines appropriate action
Advises and assists in turf management program
Lays out jobs and estimates manpower and equipment needs
Recommends new equipment and requisitions supplies
Prepares information for budget requests
Maintains records and reports for arborist maintenance program
Requirements:
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and on a team in a fast-paced environment
Ability to read and complete daily paperwork
Knowledge of principles and practices of tree maintenance and arboriculture
Thorough knowledge of safety in the industry, as well as the use of equipment including power and hand tools
Knowledge of trees, insects, and diseases in order to provide recommendations for proper care
Valid ISA certification
Experience within the tree care industry, including aerial operator and/or climbing skills, pruning experience, and tree-identification skills
Valid class 5 driver's license, air brakes endorsement considered an asset
Must maintain a high level of technical knowledge, and retain valid First Aid and CPR cards
In-town and out-of-town positions available, some job positions may require additional certifications such as CSTS
