Function:

The Noxious Weed Inspector is responsible to inspect, enforce and control designated noxious and prohibited weeds, according to the Alberta Weed Control Act. 

Duties & Responsibilities:      

Coordinate and implement the municipalities Noxious Weed Control Program.

Completing crop, weed, and pest surveys.

Complete annual weed inspections on public and private land.

Work with agricultural producers to control noxious field weeds.

Keep a daily log of all areas sprayed and/or inspected.

General labour and yard duties.

Perform other related duties within the scope of the position as required.

Every employee shall complete and apply designated training and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety legislation.  Every employee shall take reasonable care to protect the health and welfare of themselves and other workers and cooperate with the employer in protecting the health and safety of all employees and contractors present on the worksite, as stated in the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.

Qualifications:

Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license in good standing.

Possess basic knowledge of modern agricultural production practices.

A Pesticide Applicator’s License and/or a good understanding of weeds would be considered an asset.

Formal technical training/education in Agronomy would be considered an asset.

Ability to work as part of a team or with minimal supervision.

Excellent communication skills.

Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to respond to inquiries.

Must provide a Criminal Record Check with satisfactory results.

Working Conditions:    

Primarily outside working in varying weather conditions.  

Hours of work and type of work may be affected by the weather.

Interaction with agricultural pests and exposure to pesticides.

Use of correct PPE as required.

Physical Requirements:    

Frequently driving, entering/exiting the equipment, lifting, bending, climbing, pulling and managing equipment.

Physical effort is moderately required in standing, walking, and carrying materials weighing up to 15kg.
